Near black color where no light shines through, even on the edge. Very light beige head. Leaves a combo of blanket and spotty lace.
First smell was of cream. Second smell captures the aromas of deeply roasted (and some burnt) malt. Very smooth, balanced nose.
Initially the malt sticks out--a cross between a porter and a stout. The swallow draws out definitive burnt malt bitterness. The aftertaste features dark chocolate with a bit of cherry and cream (just a touch of sweetness). While the hops take a back seat, they're present, but not in a complex way. The body leans rich but the carbonation does a great counterbalance.
