Bottle from the bottle shop, pours deep brown with reddish highlights and a thick slightly frothy head. Aroma, nutty, grassy, chocolaty. Flavour: toasty, chocolaty with a lovely fresh hop bitterness to balance and a refreshing carbonic bight. Fairly light in the mouth - so refreshing despite the full flavours.

Bottle: Poured a clear dark brown color ale with a medium size light brown foamy head with OK retention and some lacing. Aroma of caramelized malt notes with light coffee notes is quite enticing. Taste is also a mix of dry caramelized malt with very little residuals sugar notes and some light bitter coffee notes. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. Very well brewed for the style.

A:
Pours an opaque ebony color with a big, creamy tan head that takes some settling to pour but sticks around. Good retention; a few specks of lacing. (4.25)

S:
Toasted nuts, bark, light cocoa, some cinnamon-like spice finishes it off. (4)

T:
Wow! Nutty and chocolatey at once with a bite from the hops/carbonation and an aromatic chocolate milk finish. (4.25)

M:
Light but rich body with active carbonation and a soft, nutty-sweet finish. (4)

O:
This is a damn fine beer!
I am an unabashed adorer of the brown ale. It can be so good, but is often done so badly. This is an example of the former. A really rich, super drinkable beer sporting luscious (but not heavy) layers of mid-roast malts. It is light and easy-drinking and low-alcohol without tasting/feeling hollow. And really, this bumps it up a bit in my opinion. I don't often try "table beers" this flavorful and rich or enjoy them this much.
I will track this one down to have another. Between this and their American Brown they have the style dialed in as far as I am concerned.
