Draught samples at The King Edward, Ilderton, ON- Deep brown, almost opaque, but does let some light in. Has a creamy and thin mocha cap. Roasted coffee nose has dark chocolate, notable hops, vanilla, and a mild fruitiness I attribute to the cherries. Nice and bitter, like black coffee, slightly tart, with a metallic hoppiness. A coffee like bitter finish with lingering roast and slight tartness. Medium bodied, a bit thin, but otherwise a very solid effort from this brewer

On tap at Smokeless Joes. Pours with thin tan head. Opaque brown colour, some small amounts of lacing. Smells of mild chocolate and cherry, lots of roasted malt. Flavour is skightly sweet, nice bitterness though. Thinner mouthfeel than normal for the style.

On nitro-tap at Kickoff in Waterloo, this is Railway City's winter 2010 seasonal, brewed on December 30th and released January 14th. The brewery website has this beer sitting at 5.5% and 33 IBU, and utilizes "local sour cherries" in the brewing process.
Poured into a tumbler. Nearly black, with only the faintest chestnut-ruby around the edges. Thick mocha head, lots of lacing and decent retention.
The nose is mild, and primarily of soft coffee, dark chocolate and cream notes. Not much in the way of cherries in the nose, I'm afraid.
The brew begins as a standard porter, with coffee, chocolate and cream, before giving way to a tart cherry-cranberry finish. The tartness is somewhat jarring, and doesn't really mesh that well with the rest of the beer, but generally speaking, the brew is fairly tasty. A dry, nutty finish, with a taste that reminded me a bit of mashed peanut husks.
The body is a bit thin, even for a porter, but is creamy and goes down fairly well.
A decent winter seasonal brew. The cherry is a bit tart for my liking (I would have identified it as cranberry over cherries), but the end result was good. Give it a try if you see it.
