64oz growler into a pils glass. Thanks go to StormKing47 for the share. The brew pours a golden yellow color topped with a respectable finger of white froth. The brew looks solid for the style and maintains and uncanny amount of head retention.
The aroma falls short with an unfortunate display of spoiled grain and wet corn. This is not that good. It has a trace amount of lemony essence mixed with stinky feet. Its a stretch to pick out those attributes even when swirling and as it warms up.
The flavor initially is all sorts of soapy and just off. There is a hint of something like corn which provides an unexpected sweetness. A contrasting addition of faint lemony quality is the first indication of this possibly being a berliner. It does not have that fresh wheaty grain element or snap of cleanliness I look for in a good berliner.
This is a light bodied brew with a modest level of carbonation. It looks the part of a berliner and slightly feels like it as well. But the flavor and aroma really come up short. I wanted to like this because frankly berliner is my favorite style and having another PA brewery making it is awesome. However, they need to go back to the drawing board on this one and try again.

had on draft at roy pitz brewery.
appearance: straw golden yellow with 1 white head
smell: lemon, slight sour funk, vino grape smell
taste: hint of tartness, lemon and grape notes,
mouthfeel: moderate carbonation with crispness on the tongue non cloying.
overall: average for the style. I like my berliner weisse alittle more acidic / tart forward. it's a start on a style that is not the easiest to brew.
cheers,
