Can looks the same as usual but no maize/corn in the ingredients...I assume this will taste rather different to the UK brewed or Belgian brewed one. Bergenbier are fairly good brewers, I much prefer them usually to United or Ursus. It will lose a few overall marks for not having the maize/corn in...
Looks totally ok, if a little pale. Aroma is very similar to the UK brewed Stella, I assume the hops are the same.
Taste is fairly weak but has that distinct Stella hoppiness and balanced bitterness. It has an ok mouth feel, especially from the can, and there is a distinct bitter hoppy aftertaste that kicks in, and also a bitterness from the initial taste. Far better mouth feel than most other pilsners or lagers at this price range. An IPA version of this with more hops would be pretty good I think.
Compared with Belgian brewed Stella...it simply does not compare. Though as a very light, budget, brewed under licence lager, I like it and would buy again. Instead of malt sweetness and simple dry hoppiness in the aftertaste, it actually has complexity. The English version is known as wife beater as it's known to cause violence, and I think this is something to do with the corn. This hopefully therefore won't make me beat my wife, which it can't anyway as I am not even close to having one as I drink too much beer and scare them away.Yay.
