This was a special one-off version of their High Desert Imperial Stout, aged in charred oak bourbon barrels. They were actually pouring it from growlers behind the bar.
Pours a pitch black with light carbonation and barely any head to speak of.
Smell is of bourbon, vanilla, and chocolate coffee notes.
Taste is exceptional with espresso, dark chocolate and a good dose of warming bourbon. Hop accents are balancing, but not overly strong.
Mouthfeel is medium with very light carbonation, almost tasted cask-conditioned, although not quite. A bit watery up front, but then it seems to coat the mouth with comlex flavors.
Finish is slick and coating, but soons leads to a dry hoppy bite. I WANT MORE.
This is a fantastic beer that they told me was only available for a couple of days as it was going quick. They decided to try something new, and wanted to know what people thought. I consider myself lucky to have gotten a chance to try it, EXCELENT!
