On tap at brewery:
Pours a clear bit deep amber. Head retention isn't too impressive but there are a few spots of late at the top of the glass.
Nose is malty with the slightest hint of alcohol. The classic bock dark pitted fruit note is there, plum to cherry to raisin impressions.
Taste follows, a little more on the dark cherry. There's a mild resemblance to a manhattan. Malty for sure, and a little sweeter than others I've had, but not to a great extent. Light alcohol heat on a medium thick beer.
Pretty solid beer, here.

Clear dark amber colored, thin white head. Nice malty aroma. Sweeter taste, but appropriate for the style. Fuller mouthfeel, but smooth. on point for the style

Draft at the Centreville brewpub. "Big rich and malty" is right ... This is a mouthfull. Sweet and cookie-based brew with a bitter apple finish. Deep amber with a nice full head. Quite good. Mellow enough that my non-beer nerd female friend actually ordered one, too. (#2646, 1/13/07)

Nice copper color with a full-moderate light beige head and light slow carbonation which leaves nice sheets of lace. Very nice grain and caramel malt aromas; maybe a touch of hop character on the nose. Nice complex malt flavors with grain, bread, caramel and nice balance. Medium-full bodied and smooth with a nice balanced light candy sweetness on the finish.
Nails the style pretty darn well !!
Per Chalkboard at the brewpub: 7.0% ABV

Bronze hue, w/ a thick persistent light tan head. Excellent clarity. Toasty Munich and medium caramel malt sweetness dominate the aroma, with fruity melanoidins secondary. Caramel malt sweetness upfront in flavor leads into a bready, toasted and slightly buttery Munich malt middle. The initially mild hop bitterness fades, allowing residual sweetness and notes of caramelized fruit to surface late. Moderate in body, w/ a smooth, dextrinous mouthfeel. Finishes clean, and lightly caramelly sweet. Flavorful, w/ an overall balance only lightly skewed towards sweetness. Sidewinder is a tasty bock, but falls just a touch short in malt character to be outstanding. It's much better than many microbrewed examples of the style, nonetheless.
