Jet black with one and a half inches of thick dark golden-brown foam that lingers a few minutes before depositing fine spots of lace on a Swiftwater snifter. Pours like dense syrup and has a very dark brown halo when put to the light.
The aroma opens with cinnamon and nutmeg. Bittersweet chocolate follows, then later there is an odd, out-of-place scent. Warmth brings out burnt malt.
The bittersweet balance oscillates and lingers into a long, almost endless, finish. Mild sweet bourbon and peat contrast bittersweet chocolate. Dark roasted malt figures as a major player once noticed. These all continue to develop with warmth.
The alcohol is strong, however, there is no heat as one would expect from an 11.6% Stout. The body is dense and chewy with a texture of marshmallow fluff. The carbonation is soft and fine. Warmth adds a mild spicy burn.
This beer is working quite well for me on a drizzly summer afternoon out on the deck.

Pours very dark. Dark brown foam. Deep chocolate aroma. Rich cocoa body. Semi sweet chocolate with a bitter finish. Not too sweet. Rich and decadent. Smooth. You can taste the alcohol. Best one of the three.

It is an ugly beer. Floaties and an oil slick on top. You might think it’s infected to look at it. Not much to the nose, maybe some
baker’s chocolate. Forget that. It is a delicious beer. The barrel is mild, but you get some wood up front. The stout base is sublime, so smooth, dark, full. The chocolate adds creaminess and more fullness, and I guess there might be cacao nibs to add some nuance. 11.6% ABV has no burn or warmth, but holy hell does it pack a punch. I’m not exaggerating that it drinks like a 17%+ beer.
