Each year, we release Bourbon Barbera, a small batch of red wine that has been aging in bourbon barrels for several months. Once those barrels have been perfectly infused with wine, we fill them with this beer. Picking up notes of strawberry jam, baking spice, toffee, cherry cordial, and vanilla, we produce this beer in limited quantities to be enjoyed now or in the cellar. Vintage 2021

Pours black with one quarter inch of pancake batter froth that holds for a very long time. A sheet of dappled lace follows down the sides of a Pretentious Glass Company snifter. A halo of dark mahogany is clearly visible.

The aroma opens with astringent booziness, followed by mild, roasted malt. Warmth brings out the wine, improving the experience greatly.

This one is shockingly sweet, reminiscent of Southern Comfort in that regard. Booziness dominates. Mild bitterness works with the roasted malt. A mild finish starts strong before quickly fading, leaving a lingering sensation. Warmth is also favorable to the flavor, adding jam, while softening the booziness and allowing the malt to become more prominent.

As expected from the above impressions, the alcohol is well expressed and quite hot. The body is slick and thin, with light carbonation.

This was somewhat disappointing. The second glass from the bottle was enjoyed with a cigar while watching Gracie chase leaves on a bright and sunny, cold afternoon. At room temperature it worked fairly well with a smoked Gouda.
