Sampling a 16 oz can poured at cellar temp into my snifter. Date stamp is canned on 9/29/2023....bought in the brewery on the shelf at end of July. "Drink Fresh" on the label.... :( I suspect beer will be okay, but wonder what the coffee is doing?
The beer pours a rich dark coffee color with a fizzy and slightly frothy tan head of 1.5 cm foaming up. This foam fades to nothing pretty soon after the pour. No light is passing through my glass.
Aroma is dark chocolate, roasted malt, some coffee grounds and a bit of peppery booze. I do get some bourbon in the background as well, but never any hop character on the nose.
First sip reveals a medium body with soft and smooth texture. very gentle and spacious carbonation. Pretty easy to drink for a bigger ABV beer.
Flavor is dark chocolate and some molasses notes , which mixes nicely with sweeter bourbon and vanilla too. Coffee isnt nearly as present here, which could be the age of the can. No hop character and booze is pretty well hidden too.
This is a tasty imperial stout, I suspect there was more coffee flavor when the beer was fresh, but Im still enjoying this can.
