They say to never judge a book by its cover, so what if it's beer by its label? This beer pouts out pretty well nice brown color, clear and transparent nothing bad there. The aroma isn't much of anything but a strange sour smell. Very unappealing to me. The taste screams sour and funky... Why does a Nut Brown taste like this? I've never had a beer of this style that smells and tastes like this does. The only time I started to taste some nuttiness was in the late aftertaste. Other than that this beer is just off balance to me. Not a fan.

I purchased this at Quick six on Mt Rose Avenue, York. Poured chilled from the 12oz into a tulip pint.
A - A dark crimson color like rust w/ good clarity and 2 fingers of cream head which settles to about 1/2 inch leaving stringy lace
S- A nutty roasted or should I say toasted malt nose-almost nutty, but more bready w/ a hint of metallic odor and slightly earthy element
M - Very chalky dry almost roasted, but not quite-very mild carbonation and light sweetness w/ cracker-like powdery dark malt texture w/ a touch of sweetness in the mostly clean finish
T - A dark root oriented flavor more like bark than nuts w/ light sweetness -kind of cocoa tinged, but as if you put it in your mouth straight and it sucked some of the moisture away. The taste isn't astringent, but rather starts to get creamy w/ mild dried fruit sugary taste 1/2 way in. The flavor is nutty in a vague way w/ a mild bread crust taste + light chocolate malt through to the finish
D - The nut brown is not a bad beer, just comes off as sort of one note + was lackluster. I have had better and I have had worse. Alright if you like a lot of chocolate malt flavor, I guess

a: pint glass, pours a dark chestnut brown with little head
s: dark toffee with brushes of chocolate underneath, nutty and on the sugary side, sweet dark grain breads, maybe some soy sauce in the back
m: body on the full side of medium with a low, prickly carbonation
t: big toffee and pumpernickel bread with chocolate underneath, sweet but with a balancing hop bitterness - little hop flavor though, turns towards dry nutshell and toasted malt in the finish
d: wasn't expecting much given my experience with the brewery's white, but this brown is at least decent
single from 6-12, Raleigh

On-tap at Flying Saucer served in a standard pint-glass a crisp light brown with a decent diminishing head. Aroma is a bit of burnt caramel, but not much else there. The taste is a decent amount of nutty brown malts, slight cocoa and caramel. The beer is quite light and refreshing. This is a decent nut brown ale, to say the least.

Their site has this to say about their Nut Brown Ale:
"This wolf is complex, but knows what he's doing. With six specialty malts, the flavoring is magnificent and unforgetable. Locks Timberwolf is full-bodied with fresh nutty aroma, notes of caramel, and raisen, brown sugar and a grainy texture. A real treat for the dark beer drinker!"
I have to admit that the idea of a "grainy texture" is not one that I look for in a beer but who knows...
Timberwolf pours a dark, dark brown, almost looks like a glass of Pepsi. The head is very thin and quick to dissipate, carbonation looks good. Looks very caramel-y.
Smell is that of rich dark, brown bread. Very sweet smelling with aromas of malt, caramel, brown sugar and some iron.
Taste starts of with bold mouthful of sweet caramel malt but quickly develops a thin, watery feel. I get the flavor of soft pretzel from this beer, not that is a bad thing, its just a bit unexpected.
The body of this beer needs some work, maybe a little "oomph" to pick it up and straighten it out. There is more wolf inside this beer, it just needs some help to come out of its den.

I was wondering when we were gonna see some more brews from this brewery around these parts. Found a bottle at City Bev and grabbed it. Poured into my pint a deep rusty amber with a good 2-finger tan head on top. This disappears to little more than a ring around the edge, leaving no lacing at all. Smells of sweet bread, brown sugar, and a slight coffee scent.
The mouth is very wet and thin. I don't like the weak feel of this. Flavor is pretty thin as well. Weak bready flavor mixed with slight nutty dryness. This sure could use some work, but nevertheless, I am excited to see more brews come out of NC.

Had a bottle of this at Vintage 301 last night.Poured flat with no carbonation and or no head,a dark rust color to it.Not much aroma just some caramel and roastinee but again its faint.Flavors are bad but thinner uncarbonated mouthfeel takes away from them.Somewhat nutty with a bit of bitter chocolate and caramel flavors bot not overly sweet.More of an English brown in my mind,it needs some tweaking before I would get again.
