Service: Bottle
A:
Pours a dark, impenetrable black that is a tiny bit red when poured in the light with a perfect three fingers of tan whipped cream eventually drops to a film/ring. Good retention; some rippled lacing. (4)
S:
Nutty, bready fruit. Dough left to rise, jerky, dark fruits, nuts, smoke. (3.5)
T:
Nutty and toasted. Soft and smoky with very little sweetness, smoke, nuts, some hard water. (3.5)
M:
Light-medium body with a thinnish feel and lots of little carbonation (pop-like). (3.5)
O:
Easy drinking, non-sweet Dubbel.
It is pretty smoky and only hints at being lacquer like in the finish. It is not very sweet which is nice, but I like a dubbel to be pretty rich, creamy and sweet. This isn't quite any of that.
It pours nice enough and both the aroma and flavor are smoky, toasty, and nutty. Overall it is not a bad beer, but probably one I won't seek out again. Label's cute, though.
Probably won't have again; I would try something else, if I was wondering about this one, their saisons are excellent. (3.5)

Bottle: Poured a dark clear burgundy color ale with a light foamy head with light retention and not much lacing. Aroma of candi sugar, dry fruits with some fruity ester was quite pleasant. Taste is a very good mix between some candi sugars, dry fruits light biscuit malt with some fruity ester. Body is a bit light for style with medium to low carbonation but no apparent alcohol. Some light traces of spices could also be detected. Nice level of complexity with a good level of drinkability.
