On-tap at Bootlegger's,

A: Pours a murky red violet, great colour, no head. Looks like liquid fermented jam.

S: All blackberry fruit, jammy, very fruity with a hint of acid.

T: Blackberries swimming in lactic acid which I loved. Finishes with an intriguing wheat play and a great maple syrup flavour at the very end, think blackberry waffles.

M: Moderately acidic, juicy, fruit is dominant.

D: This was my favourite fruit sour of the day at Bootlegger's, just delicious.

On-tap at Bootlegger's

A: A mildly cloudy dark purple color with what appears to be some floating pieces of blackberry in the glass. The head is fairly short-lived but pink in color.

S: The blackberries are incredibly intense. They provide a sweet fruity notes and this works quite nicely with the lactic tartness.

T: The flavor is a bit on the sweeter side, almost jammy in a sense. But, the acidity helps to cut through this for the most part. There is a bit of fruit skin which helps to provide some dryness.

M: The body is maybe on the lighter side of medium with a fairly light carbonation.

D: One of the better sours from Bootlegger's. I hope they have this one again.

I like blackberries. And I like sour beer. And Bootlegger's does a good job with sour beer. This looks like an equation for a good blackberry lambic. On to the beer:

There's a little sediment at the bottom of my glass from the pour. It looks like unfiltered blackberry juice....has a murky violet color to it. No head on top. Lots of blackberry in the aroma, but also some tartenss as well. Taste...not as fruity sweet as a Lindemans fruit lambic. Regardless, Blackberry Mother Pucker is tasty. Tart from the fruit, a little sweet from the fruit, and quite acidic from the fruit.

Who knew I'd ever be able to sample a locally made sour beer with fruit? Hopefully some of this will make it outside the brewery.
