On-tap at Bootlegger's

A: The pour is a dark amber, leaning toward brown, color with a finger or so of khaki colored head.

S: Slightly peaty with a decent amount of smoke to it as well. Lots of toasted malt notes and a mild nuttiness. Quite a bit of bread which provides sweetness and some toffee and earthy hops.

T: The smoke and peat are very intense right from the outset. The smoke provides the beer an almost meaty flavor. It's quite earthy with a decent toffee profile and almost some peanut brittle on the finish. Overall, it's not quite as sweet as you would expect for a scotch ale.

M: The body is medium with a moderate level of carbonation.

D: I liked the nose, but the flavor didn't work out for me.

Sampled 1/27/2011 at the brewery. One of the 10 pilot batches that are going on in the next few days.

Pours dark brown with some red showing through, hazy, off-white head, no lacing or retention.

Aroma is of smoked beef, roast, caramel, and fireplace.

Flavor is too smokey and beef jerky like to be a great beer but over all it was nice with it's chocolate undertones, heavy caramel, and out of place bitterness.

Body is medium/heavy, undercarbed, and somewhat drinkable.
