On cask at the Bootlegger's 5th Anniversary Celebration held at The Muckenthaler Cultural Center in Fullerton, CA.
Billed as 80 Anniversary Ale (Belgian stout) with cocoa nibs.
Pours a murky dark brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, and Belgian yeast aromas. Taste is much the same with smoke and cocoa flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty and yeast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a low level of carbonation with an almost flat and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer but the mouthfeel from the cask presentation leaves something to be desired.
