People complain when they add lemonade to MGD 64 or pomegranate to Michelob Ultra. Why the hell is that? Light beers got practically nothing going on. *Ultra* light beers--the ones that use numerical titles in order to brag about how close to distilled water they are--have almost literally no flavor. Why not add some artificial fruit to it? Blandness is not a virtue.
But trying this, I think I'm starting to get some of those complaints. Maybe instead of adding Dimetapp flavoring to their light concoctions, the big brewers should spend some time trying to make those beers taste like, well, beer? You can add an awfully large amount of hop extract to a wort before you add even a single calorie to a 12-oz serving...
Crown's light offering actually looks, smells, and tastes like an American blond ale. A very solid, if unexceptional, American blonde ale. It ain't exactly a BA's beer, but it's *beer*. There's some cereal malt in there, and even a little kiss of the hops.
I try to review beers for how they perform within the confines of their own style. Because of that, this beer scores the highest of all the ones I tried at Crown. It's not necessarily my favorite, but it *is* an exceptionally solid take on the light beer style.

Tried 20 Jul 2011 at Crown Brewing. Served in a shaker pint.
Small creamy white head. Lightly carbonated. Clear straw yellow in color. Light grainy aroma. Very light. Touch of fruitiness. A bit grainy in the middle. Light body, light ethanol. Slightly astringent in the finish.
Pretty light overall.
