"Yippy is a Classic British IPA with lots of Marmalade, Kumquat & other citrus flavours supported by a big malt backbone and plenty of bitterness."

A: caramel to tan with a medium haze and mid level bubbles an nice lacing
S: red fruit possibly strawberry and a sweet citrus
T: a mild bitterness that rolls from front to back with its progessive flavors of toffee, spice, roasted fruit
M: dry, light body with lots of fizz
O: an average Ipa with odd flavors and hoppy but sweet kick. Says it is a Classic British IPA which gave me the idea to let it rest and warm a bit from the frozen tap status to rattle that malt backbone, this idea opened the senses to the sugar element that had evidently been added but still didn't shake the thing back to what it once was nor deliver any malt notes.

From reading I gather that back in 2009 it was an APA. The strange change of face and total inability to show any character makes the beer a total flop.

Aroma isn't bad with moderate floral hops, some light crystal malt and a hint of earthiness. It is pretty good.

Golden amber colour with a small creamy white head. Head retention could be better but I like it.

Well balanced flavour with some really nice malt character and a prominent and well structured hop profile. The malts and slightly sweet and toasty while the hops present as floral, woody and earthy. The bitterness is prominent and really nice. A rare 5 for flavour which reflects the fact that this is pretty much perfect from a BJCP style perspective and it tastes great.

The medium body and moderate carbonation are fine and work well to accentuate the flavours. No astringency.

A supremely drinkable beer which hits all the notes I like for flavour and aroma. I normally prefer American IPAs but this has balance, flavour and class and may just change my mind.

Just for fun I had this alongside a very well-known Aussie IPA and this crapped all over it. A great tropical hoppy nose, palate-friendly prickly bitterness, malt backbone in no way dominating. This is a pretty damn good IPA. I believe the recipe has changed since this beer was added which may be why I think it leans far more to an AIPA style than English. Get some.
EDIT: 21st Sept. 2010
This brewery, at this stage no longer has a professional brewer. Instead the owner is brewing the beers in a paint by numbers type approach. Having tried this since the head brewer left, it is apparent the owner has no idea what he is doing. The current version of this IPA is nothing short of awful. Possibly the most unbalanced out of shape IPA I've ever had. Like someone's first attempt at homebrewing, but maybe a little worse. Truly quite unpleasant. Avoid until a professional brewer is appointed.

On tap at Sydney's Local Taphouse US Beer SpecTapular.

First off, love the name - it's a shame that when I went searching for it here, I notice about fifteen other beers with the same name.

Vaguely hazy burnished gold colour, with a decent head of white foam. Not bad.

Nice resin hops with a vague hint of chlorine. Some mandarin characters, quite sweet with a light resin note. Not bad.

Certainly mandarin one the nose, and lots of citrus on the palate too, but surprisingly not terribly bitter. Just a light note of it on the back palate. Quite syrupy and sweet. Not bad. Mouthfeel is quite thick. Nice.

Overall, a very decent brew. Very citrussy, the mandarin-skin character is very dominant, and I have to say I approve overall.

Pours a standard golden colour with decent frothy off-white head, lacing is very nice and sticky, slight bead. Pretty good, really.

Nose is very nice with a nice floral hop aroma, citrusy with an orange, almost jaffa nose, slightly liqueury, very sweet actually with a tangy citrus aroma. Very nice, maybe a bit one-note though?

Taste is tangy and pleasant, with a strong, liqueury flavour, very syrupy feel, with strong and sweet notes of orange, mandarin and cumquat. Slight bourbony hit to it, maybe just a noticeable alcohol, but I think there is that sort of flavour on the finish as well. Hops are a bit subdued in terms of bitterness, there is a rich, estery sweet and sour flavour to that without much dry crispness, but that's largely due to the mouthfeel which is overly sticky.

Drinking is OK, just want a bit more crispness on the finish. Could use more bitterness is all.

Poured myself one to help take the pain away while writing the roster.

Pours a hop hazy orange - not a great deal of head or lacing

Smell - piney hops and sweet malt. Quite perfumie (if that is a word).

Taste - Piney fresh hops, some pepper and a sweet bready malt.

Mouthfeel - plenty carbonated and plenty bitter. Not as syrupy as others.

allround sessionable American IPA. Plenty of fresh hops, and just enough malt

On tap at The Local Taphouse 7/7/09.
A - Slightly hazy orange hued golden colour with 2cm of fluffy white head that hangs around for a while.
S - Tropical & stone fruit aromas up front with a bit of a piney note. All about hops it seems.
T - Also lots of tropical fruit and stone fruit in the taste with a bready and biscuity maltiness to back it up.
M - Light to medium bodied with a fairly high carbonation. High but smooth hop bitterness and sticky hop resin.
D - One of the best beers I've had this year. A hopheads delight. I don't know if they have done various versions but this seems much more like an American IPA than an English IPA. Which is a good thing!
