Samples at Los Gatos Brewery, Los Gatos, CA. Pours, hazy orange hue with a nice, lacy head. Aroma is of bubble gum and banana. Medium, crisp body, medium carbonation. Banana, bubble gum (somewhat too much of it) and brown sugar fill the mouth. Very tasty heffeweizen.

On tap at Los Gatos on 7/20/09.
A - Cloudy pale golden body with mild carbonation and fine bubbly white head that settled into a thin ring of retention.
S - Spicy nose with clove notes and a hint of banana and fruity esters. A slight bubblegum sweetness and some peppery notes are also present.
T - Clove and spicy yeast dominate the initial flavor and lasts through the finish. Some mild fruity banana notes emerge in the middle, as well as a light bubblegum sweetness. Pale wheat malts add some depth to the flavor, while some light floral hops bring a touch of bitterness to the table.
M - Light to medium body with lively carbonation that seems to bolster the spiciness on the palate. Subtle bitterness with residual sweetness on the tongue. Texture is not as chewy as other hefeweizens, due to the bristly carbonation.
D - Solid representation of the style with all the requisite flavors and aromas you'd expect to find in a hefe, though it's a bit heavy on the clove. Still, a very nice, drinkable hefe.

Referred to as their "Hugh Hefe" this summer brew shows a cloudy straw/gold color with a modest scatter of white cover and decent rings of lace. The aroma is a strong but sweet clove and lemony bubblegum, kind of nice. The taste brings more bubblegum clove sweetness and sharp citrus bread. It's aggressively carbonated but it's very fine and generally brings a solid mouthfeel for the style. Quite drinkable if you enjoy sweet clove with a dry finish.

Draft at the brewpub. Hazy yellow with a nice white froth. No lacing. Aroma is bubblegum, banana oil, and light cloves. Flavor is just about identical. Too much bubblegum for me, tastes kinda like artificially flavored banana candy. Medium-thin body, nice effervescence.

I had this on tap at Los Gatos Brew Pub. Easily the best offering they had last night. Pours a hazy yellow with a fluffy head that didn't last too long. Flavor and aroma was yeasty, with notes of coriander, cloves, banana and bubble gum. One of the best Hefe's I've had at a brew pub, as well as one of the better ones from the West Coast. Very drinkable and enjoyable.

A- A Nice Hefe cloudy golden orange yellow with a white head that disappeared very quickly, almost no lacing.
S- A typical hefe smell of citrus, wheat and clove
T/M- The Taste is very light for a Hefe. There were no real strong flavers that came out of it. It was well balanced of wheat and clove, with a nice citrus undertone.
D- This was a typical standard Hefe. It was very tasting and I would defiantly get it again, so On that not the drink ability was high. There is just nothing remarkable about it, but if you like wheat beers than defiantly do not pass this one up.

I had this beer on-tap at the brewery. It pours an orangish yellow (tinting towards the orange end). A nice white tuft of head with tight bubbles helped in the overall desirability based on appearance. The wheat does come through with this beer in the initial smell. It smells like a typical hefe- minimal hop smell, strong wheat and malt aromas. It was fairly mild in scent and nothing really stuck out. My initial taste was fairly gummy. However after swishing it around in my mouth and pulling the taste, the wheat and solid malt profile did stick out. It was nothing above an average and the gummy flavor was pervasive long after the last sip. This beer felt thinner than most I have had of this style. I would have it again at the brewery. However, if it retailed, I probably would not purchase it.
