Looks like I made the wiser choice with this one out of the lineup. Has a pretty decent profile with a mild spicy and salty hop tone going on. Very present malt base. Consistent delivery. Overall, not too bad really. The carbonation is high on the bite and seems to attack my tongue though.

On tap at Los Gatos on 7/20/09.
A - Clear pale golden body with amber hues, scant amount of carbonation and thin, bubbly off-white head that diminished into a thin veil and left a bit of lace around the glass.
S - Mild pine notes mingle with sweet caramel malts and light citrus notes. Simple and classic.
T - Spicy citrusy notes in the forefront are paired with toasted grainy malts. Hops are a bit nondescript, perhaps, and take on a slight piney character. Sweet caramel malts keep the flavor pretty balanced, though I think the hops are feature just a bit more prominently.
M - Light bodied ale with a light syrupy texture and a bit of an oily mouthfeel. Fairly crisp hop bite in the finish with a slight metallic character.
D - Dog Tale is on the hoppier side of the pale ale spectrum. It's nice to see a hop-forward pale ale rather than your typical one with muted hop notes and really grainy or caramely maltiness.

Draft at the brewpub. Golden caramel color with an off white head leaving filmy wet lacing. Aroma is grapefruit rind and pale malt. Flavor is soapy citrus hops, pale malt, light bitterness. Could use some caramel malt, pretty one dimensional. Dry finish, medium thin body. Drinkable but very run of the mill.
