I've had this twice on tap in the pub this year. The Ardbeg barrel scotch comes together so well. It's like a scotch stout beer that's super smokey/ peaty. Full bodied, dark chocolate charcoal color/ BLACK. Very flavorful and rich. Definitely enjoyed sipping on this. The alcohol is quite present but it's not really hot or have any sort of burn. This is a great beer, easy to swallow and gulp or slowly taste the richness of the peaty stouty boozy liquid platinum!

I've had this twice on tap at HOTD and the kegs seem to have come from different barrels. The first was very smoky and peaty, interesting for a couple ounces but ultimately a bit tiring. The second smelled just like Ardbeg, and had a strong flavor of the whisky as well, but less smoke. Still lots of lingering peat, but I found it much more drinkable.

Pretty sure this and the single malt Adam are the same beer, and in fact at the tasting room, the beer is listed at the single malt Adam. On tap at the tasting room. In any event...

As others have mentioned, there is a huge presence of smoky peat, both on the nose and the palate. It tends to overwhelm and obliterate the normal Adam characteristics (this is especially true on the nose). I'm a big Islay, single malt scotch fan, so I thought this beer was fun, but I can see how some might find it to be too much of a good thing. There's still some sweet malt and dry fruit from the Adam based beer on the palate, but there's a lot of smoke as well. Alcohol is well disguised and integrated into the flavor profile otherwise.

An interesting beer, but the taster glass I got at the tasting room (all you were allowed to order) was sufficient for me.
