Thanks to 66jzmstr for this one. Brewed March 2012. 750 cork (very stubborn and plastic cork) & cage bottle poured into 16oz tulip. Poured a very muddy, but still translucent, medium-dark brown color with a quarter-inch of loosely bubbled tan head that quickly settled into the thinnest of caps and had light-moderate lacing.
The aroma on finally getting the bottle open was strongly vinegary. In the glass the vinegar was notable lower, and there was a slight, earthy fruit scent. After a few moments, some fairly nice grain scents showed through as well.
The vinegar was greatly reduced on the palate, and some stone fruit (cherries, maybe plums) also showed up. The grains were apparent, but soft.
The body was very light, mostly smooth, and had a medium dry, semi-tart finish that dried out more after a few moments. Very low carb throughout (it is a HotD brew after all).
Drinkability was OK, some more carb woulda helped, but it's another point in favor of smaller format bottles. The 750 was a bit more than I woulda liked.
Overall, this brew is probably past its prime. It's enjoyable enough, but was probably moreso when fresher. Probably still worth grabbing if you see it, which you probably won't.
