Tall tapered neck brown half liter bottle with a silver and gold label featuring the brewery's coat of arms and two slogans: "Old Germany in the new Siberia" and "Brewed in accordance with the German purity law." Ingredients list supports the latter statement. Best before 8/26/04, I opened it on 4/6/04.
Pours a very bubbly, slightly dark clear gold under a snow white two finger head with good contour, excellent retention and very nice lacing. Nice pour, actually. There's a hint of sour cherry in the nose, with a good share of flowery hops, too. The mouth is light and very prickly. Mild malt kicks off the flavor experience, accompanied by just the very slightest hint of sour grapes - enough to give it some character, not enough to be bad. There's also a good hoppy bitterness here from the beginning but quite pronounced in the finish. They taste like German hps, crisp and fresh. The malt comes back in the aftertaste, but then there is a second bitter kick. This is a quite nice, even complex beer. Kudos to Vinap!
