Pours caramel colored, slightly opaque with a thin head of foam. Aroma is hazelnut and butterscotch. Taste is thinly hazelnut, smooth with a thin veneer of chocolate. It is not complex and pales in comparison to other brown ales, but not overly so.

It's wet.

Brewery notes: BRONZE MEDAL 2016 World Beer Championship
Rich malts create a butterscotch & toffee flavor; combined with natural hazelnut flavor this brown ale has a great nutty twist, like Hazel herself.

tested from 12oz bottles
Pours a very dark brown, with a nice fine light brown head that last a while leaving some lacing. smells like hazel nuts and maybe coffee or chocolate mouca. Almost no sentiment at the bottom of the bottle.

taste Is a nice brown ale with Hazel nuts Flavor. a touch of chocolate and maybe toffee, plus Coffee?. Nicely balanced as the hazel nut does not overpower the base beer. Smooth and just slightly sweet at times, but just slightly bitter at times also. Nice beer

Very dark, robust color. Like a porter. Sliver of head, beige in color.

Smells like rich hazelnut and the most amazing coffee house on earth. I just. Can't even. Wow.

Flavor doesn't quite translate as well. The hazelnut is there, followed by a second of melted chocolate, some trailing coffee, and some sour bitterness. The sourness almost lends itself to cherry-like flavors, leading me to think it's just a touch infected - but not badly. Some copper/stone on the finish. Still, it's chocolatey hazelnut up to the finish even when it's confronted with nazi soldiers of metal.

Feel is super carbonated, lending to an easy drinking beer overall. Some slight dryness and nuttyness on the finish.

Overall, Hazel's Nut House was almost a knock out beer for me. Unfortunately I can't try it again to see if I just got a slightly infected sample. I'll gladly take another though for science ;-) Try it if you can get ahold of it.

One of 4 beers inside a variety pack case of 12 bottles from the Wisconsin Dells Brewery (3 of each). No freshness date on any of the bottles.

The beer poured a dark brown color with a 2-finger creamy tan head that stuck around awhile and left some moderate lacing.

Big time hazelnut aroma. It smelled like one of those iced hazelnut coffees from McDonald's.

The hazelnut flavor was not as strong as the hazelnut smell but it was still the dominant flavor of this beer. Mild coffee, mild chocolate, and mild hop bitterness round out the rest of the flavors.

Smooth and creamy with a medium body and higher than average carbonation.

Haven't been impressed with most of the offerings from this brewery, but this one is pretty good.

Review from notes. Had on tap at the brewery in Wisconsin Dells

Brown beer with a minimal head, trace of lacing. Aroma is spot on hazelnut coffee with some background chocolate. Smells like a flavored coffee drink, which isn't a bad thing. Taste is much of the same, definite hazelnut, some coffee, chocolate, mildly sweet malty. Medium-light body with medium carb. Tasty for the pour I had but I wouldn't want to drink more than a pint.

If you absolutely love hazelnuts more than anything else in life this is your beer. The smell is overwhelming, the taste us like a slap in the mouth and it lingers, and lingers and lingers until you drink something else. I bought a sixer because why not. I really want my money back

I tried this ale at Moose Jaw Brewery in Wisconsin Dells. It is dark colored with a one finger white/ tan head. Their was no lacing on the pint glass. I tasted roasted nuts as well as a sweet taste that I found hard to identify. After a suitable time period I decided that it was a sweet butterscotch taste. I purchased a six pack of this ale so I could taste it again at home. It left little aftertaste. I think it tasted a little too sweet for my tastes.
