This copper colored IPA is served unfiltered, leaving all the taste intact. Aroma dominates with hop and ester aromas, underlaid with classic British earthiness and solid malt, but firmly loaded with hops.

Taster at brewery. Medium golden, small head but lots of lacing. Aroma and taste lean more to the malts than the hops, light caramel notes. Sweet with mild bitterness

draft at the brewpub

Served in a standard shaker pint, Stewart’s IPA is an orange-copper in color with a slight haze and a full frothy head that retains well. The combination of malt and hop here sits really well with me - toasted bread and caramel malts form a sturdy base overlain with pine and citrus rind hops. The beer takes on woody and earthy tones, especially after warming - not the bright, juicy character of an American version but something a little deeper.. Moderate in body, medium carbonation, nice mouthfeel. A winner - a nice change of pace in the IPA category.

Review from notes. Had on tap at the Pickled Pig.

A: Pours a clear dark copper with a sizeable white head on top, probably 1.5 fingers in height. nice retention and clingy lacing.

S: Earthy/floral hops, fairly subdued (not surprising though), with a little bit of caramel.

T: Some pine and a little bit if light citrus fruit with more caramel and some bready malt.

M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Slightly bitter finish, but overall easy drinking.

O: A solid English IPA, hoppier than most, probably because it is made in the US.

From cask to nonic pint glass at Stewart's on 4/14/12
*From notes

A: Clean orange-amber. A cascading 1.5 finger white, dense head tops the beer. Really top notch lacing clings to the walls of the glass.

S: This is where the cask conditioning really begins to make a difference. The base beer (having had it right beforehand) is mediocre to disappointing. But for whatever reason, the cask adds a complexity to this beer that I just fell in love with. Freshly sliced peaches are all over this. A touch of freshly cut wood and some biting hops round out what is just a fantastic nose.

T: Tannic fruit. Lots of up front bitterness and juicy fruit, fruit that is nowhere to be found in the base beer. The mid is rather candied. The back is woody. The bittering hops really linger in the mouth for a good while.

M: Well it's in a cask, which normally I don't like. In this case, it's still a bit oily and lacking proper carbonation, but the beer is dense. Really dense. Dense enough to hold up to the wood it sits in, and therefore allows the beer to be complex yet extremely approachable.

O: If you'd told me this was the same beer sans cask, I wouldn't have believed you. This mauls the base brew, and is one of the better casked American offerings I've enjoyed in months. I happily killed three pints, and could have taken down a few more.

highly recommended on cask.

First had: on tap at their brewpub

Poured a clear coppery amber with a wisp of white bubbles on top. Crisp hops in the nose, citrus and grains. Typical IPA profile. Light and crisp, citrus and pine, with some slightly metallic off-tastes. Light-medium mouthfeel, with a dry finish. Pretty cut and dry, simple, nothing out of the ordinary, but nothing too bad overall.

I had this on tap today at lunch. It was served in a shaker pint, clear copper color with a 2 finger white head. There was a faint citrus aroma. The flavor was a bit of sweet grape fruit with a slightly bitter finish. The beer was a bit thin, but well carbonated and easy drinking. A decent English IPA, but not spectacular.

Poured at brewpub into pint glass.

A- Copper color, clear with slight white head and average carbonation.

S- Clean smell with nice citrus air and a nice balance between the hops and the malt.

T- The balance come thru with some light citrus and some sweet malt flavor.

M- The taste was alittle watery. Not as much body as I remember from before, but tasty.

D- This beer is good and will be one of my goto beer on my next visit.
