A tumbler glass served at the brewpub.
A: The stout is a dark one, pitch black with a tan colored head atop it. The head was quick to disappear.
S: The aroma is mildly roasted malts with an equally subtle bourbon aroma. I had to double, even triple, check the nose just to ensure that the bourbon really was there.
T: The stout element is moderate, roasted and burnt without the over-the-top flavor in a double or imperial stout. The mild chocolate segues into the bourbon in a seemless manner. The bourbon is mild, with just enough vanilla and pepper to match the stout.
M: A bourbon barrel could easily overtake a regular stout but this one is nicely blended. Neither flavor overpowers the other and I am all the better for it.
D: The alcohol doesn't strike me a big, making it easier to enjoy a glass or two of it.

Appears a pitch black with a mahogany hue glowing at the bottom of the glass. A Frothy, light tan head fades into a mild, silky cap. Scattered lacing is left around the glass.
Smell is of roasty nuts, American oak, bourbon, caramel, vanilla, ripe dark fruit, raisins, brown sugar, and light cocoa.
Taste is of the mentioned aromas with a resounding bourbon and raisin flavor dominating.
Mouthfeel is smooth, sweet, medium bodied, semi-dry, settling on the middle of the tongue with a grapey raisin flavor that lingers along the palate.
I'm really digging these bourbon barrel brews that Ric's been doing. I'm dissapointed that I just missed the Freightzenbock(bourbon barrel weizenbock) but I look forward to the next one.
