Served on-tap at the brewpub in Bear, DE.
A: The Scottish ale is a dark tawny port color, deep red accentuated by bright ruby red at times. Little head blanketed the ale.
S: The nose is malty, full of caramel and toffee. Hoppy bitterness is minimal.
T: The ale does not skimp on the mid-depth malts. Caramel and dense toffee dominate the front of the sip. The malts are not overly thick, instead retaining a nice smooth breadiness. Mild bittering hops add a touch of zest to the ale but prefer to remain behind the scenes. The finish is malty, focused on the caramel flavor.
M: The mouthfeel lacks an appreciable smokiness but the malts get the job done. The flavors don't grab you but they don't disappoint either.
D: A pint or two with a nice meal of bangers and mash would be very enjoyable.
