First had: on tap at Bray's Brewpub & Eatery
Usually when it comes to beer, the word "oatmeal" is almost always followed by "stout." But this was an oatmeal pale ale, which is something I've never seen or tasted before. And surprisingly, it was great. Poured a hazed golden brown with a thin layer of white bubbles for a head. Aroma of pale malts, with a touch of funk. Taste of lightly toasted malts, light sugars, wet grass. Sweet, light, and smooth, easy on the palate, and not strong at all; oatmeal gives a nice rich body. Very nice.

Well, not what I expected, but with such an original brew, it's not like I had a track record.
The "pale" aspects are softened with the addition of about 10% oatmeal in the malt. Do not go into this thinking Sierra Nevada or Geary's: this is a lower alcohol, low-hop bitterness beer for people who want a session beer that isn't golden or brown. Pours with only a slight head that recedes very quickly. The malt character is very smooth and biscuity.
Michael Bray claims his is only the second oatmeal pale he'd ever heard of. It was surely my first.
