On-tap at Bray's One Night Stand and I consider this the stand out. I ended up having two 5oz tasters and if I had stayed longer, I probably would have just kept on drinking this all night. In my opinion, this imperial stout can be compared to the best of them and even rivals Kate the Great. I wasn't entirely sure whether to put this under the regular imperial stout or as a RIS since I felt it was very similar to Kate. Also, I wasn't sure if it was bourbon barrel aged as it was said, but I did pick up some smoke and woodiness aspects, but also just left it as a regular imperial stout labeling. Now onto the review...
Pours a dark black color with no light being able to get through, thin wispy head with little lacing.
Smell has a strong roasted malt aroma with hints of dark fruit and chocolate, a little coffee presence and a bit of smokiness.
Taste is utter delight, hits right off with a roasted malt and woodiness taste then melds into a dark fruit aspect, slight warming sensation but doesn't distract at all from the drinkability, I wonder how strong it is though so I can know how well it's hidden.
As I've said before, I really think this is a taste contender to Kate and you'd be a fool not to try it when it's available at Bray's. Now I just need to find out when they typically have it on-tap so I can visit more often!
