The beer pours a deep black color with a thin tan head. The aroma is decent. It boasts of mostly black patent and roasted barley. This is a dark smelling beer. The taste is good. It is dry, but very enjoyable. It has a rich black malt flavor with hints of roasted and chocolate malts. It goes down smooth with a good mouthfeel. This is a full bodied beer with adequate carbonation. It drinks well, but is better suited for those who prefer "dark" dark beers.

I liked this porter a lot, and consider it one of the better beers in Black Rock's lineup. Definite coffee/bitter notes leave a compact impression on the palate. Mouthfeel feels slightly thin but more than appropriate for the style. Eminently drinkable and enjoyable.

Served as part of a sample tray at their brewpub. Beer poured a deep brown/nearly black color with a tan creamy head. Subtle whisps of roasted grains and chocolates in the aroma. Roasted coffee and chocolate comes through a light to medium bodied beer. Grainy bitterness left on the tongue and the alcohol is nicely hidden. Not bad.
