Taster at Sun Valley. Near black pour, thin ring of head. Roast aroma with some super sweet chocolate. Taste starts toasty, then adds some cheap chocolate. Light bitterness with a bit of dryness.

a little strong for the style, but it doesnt drink strong, nice and roasty and bitter and without a lot of middle malt richness, off dry not bone dry, but dry enough, lots of nice dark grain depth, a pleasant bitter linger, some subtly burnt character too which i dont dislike in one of these, and not served on nitro but still smooth and creamy, almost like it was, a fine take for the st pattys season, although certainly nobody would confuse this with a guinness, it lacks that iconic creamy refinement, but i like it anyway. near black, somewhat matte luster, a head an inch high, tan, and lasting, especially compared to a few of their others beers where the head was quick to dissipate. a note of chocolate covered espresso beans and attendant bitterness, light caramel or toffee, good fresh tobacco, pavement, and a yeast of some consequence in here, the aroma and flavor are about the same to me. some linger from the roast on the tongue after each sip, but its not permanent there, and i like the slow fade. cocoa and an almost mushroom-like earthiness in there. medium body but palate coating too, some heft befitting of the style. a no frills robust stout that warms up pretty well, which happened quickly in front of their cozy little fire place. a pleasant sipper for the early spring!
