My second beer from Sun Valley, the last one I consumed, was decent. I pulled the beer out and served it in a mug. The pour produced a one finger frothy and creamy off-white head with excellent retention. The slow dissipation left chunky lacing on the glass. A layer of the soft head sits atop the beer waiting for consumption. The color is around SRM 15, deep amber with brown hues. The clarity of the beer is clear to brilliant. The appearance of the beer is above average for this style. 4.75
Initial aromas in the beer are resin, pine, grapefruit, floral, oranges, and roasted malt notes. Nosing further, I smell caramel toffee, subtle honey-like sweetness, and biscuit. Finally, I detect toasted bread crust, lemons, and a herbal character. I wanted a more aromatic beer; it was difficult to sense the aromas in the beer. 3.75
The first sip of the beer, I tasted pine needles, resin, and grapefruit. I detected caramel, biscuit, toasted bread crust, honey, orange, and earthiness. The beer has a sweetness that clashes with the hop profile. 3.75
The mouthfeel of the beer is thin and watery. To me, the beer needs to have more depth and body. The beer is astringent and finishes dry. 3.75
The body of the beer is medium, medium carbonation, and a medium-plus finish.
Overall, the beer lacks the power of other great IPA; the hop profile needs bolstering. I felt the malt backbone could have been stiffer, too. Good beer, I would drink again with a meal. 4

these guys dont have a great reputation from what i have been hearing, but they must have got a new brewer or reworked some of their processes lately, because the beers i had when i was in were quite good, the attention to detail seemed high, and there wasnt anything here turning me off at all. this is a fairly good ipa, a bit red in color and malty as they go, but the hop profile is big and fresh, and really there is a lot to like, maybe a little old school, but flavorful and drinkable. seems like there are a lot of hoppy beers like this in idaho, not quite as modern as in other places, but the quality is there. the fermentation profile is clean, bitterness is moderate, and there is a juicy fruitiness here that hits on cantaloupe, orange, and even pear. the grain is nutty and a touch sweet, with some body but never heavy, and the whole thing has a smooth and relaxed feel, maybe a little light on bubbles, but seems right for the type of ipa this is. id love to know what the hops are, oily and interesting to me, maybe like a fresher expression of chinook or simcoe or something, it works whatever it is. i liked this, and the other beer i had in here, no reason for some of the negative commentary in my experience...

On tap brewery. Amber pour with thin head, musty, funky hoppy aroma. Taste is soapy hop bitterness, dry chalky finish. Hoppy, but in the wrong way. Just a bit off....

22 picked up from the Albertsons in Hailey over the weekend.. Pours with a nice lite tan head with good lacing.. the brew is lightly hazed orange.
Nose shows pithy citrus... and light pale malts..
Not as bitter as many PNW IPAs, but still very drinkable and I think they will hit a homerun with the locals. For the BA's... this needs some work.. bigger bitterness and hop flavor.. it shows good drinkability for now, but I believe it will be short lived in the bottle.
Pretty fresh and well done.. This is not going on the "Big Boy" IPA list by any stretch, but I think Sun Valley is doing well... Brewer change???
