The beer arrived on the table clear deep amber brown with a tan lasting head which worked well to lace the glass.
The aroma contained a nice smoke character which was distinctly Alder. Following the smoke was a deep dark caramel maltiness with a biscuit and graham aroma coupled with dark fruits, namely raisins.
The flavor was malty and smoky, but not overly so, more subtle and complex that in your face. The smoke worked well with the dark caramel maltiness and rich melanoidins. All that coupled with more dark fruits in the flavor, again raisins, but added in were prune flavors for good measure. Also presence was a slight bit of chocolate.
The finish was nicely malty wiht a lasting presence of smoke character long and pleasantly into the aftertaste. The body was medium full with a creamy mouthfeel. The beer was very well done!
