Sampled on tap at the Brewgrass festival in Asheville, North Carolina. Consumed on 09/20/2008 and reviewed from notes taken at the time.
Grabbed this one up at the tent with a couple others later in the day. Poured out a nice light amber with a good bit of cloudiness to it as well. Some nice carbonation streaming up from the bottom of the glass converged into a very nice layer of lace across the top that reached maybe an inch at the most before settling down to skim the top and provided some nice side glass lacing.
The aroma was very nice, rich with a nice sharp hop tone to it. The only issue was that it was a tad bit light as it warmed up. Some nice notes of orange and pineapple though seemed to be at the heart of this one. The flavor started with that quick grip of citrus that quickly faded into a more biscuit like malt driven base. The finish came back around though with a nice dry and bitter taste, with a touch of light alcohol towards the end. Smooth and creamy there was a little bit of a light feel to it but the carbonation still held up very well. Easy to drink as the alcohol was very well hidden, and for over 7% it was smooth as could be.
Overall not bad. It was lost somewhere between an IPA and a double IPA. Very drinkable, and I think I would have no problem ordering this one up the next time I saw it.

From my limited notes when at the Outer Banks this past summer.
Pours an amber/copper color with a decent head and a little bit of lacing.
Smell is less bitter than I expect this IPA to be, strong malt backing.
Taste is well balanced between the malt and hops, unfortunately nothing really stands out for this IPA. Although, I do have to admit I did not expect the strength of this beer to be as high as it's masked quite well.

Pint on-tap at the brewery - brewed with crystal malts and Chinook, Centennial, Fuggles and Amarillo hops. It arrives clear, reddish/copper, with almost no carbonation and topped with an off-white head that leaves nice lacing. Smells sweet with a tropical fruitiness (pineapple, mango), and the flavor adds to this toasted/crystal malts, a big bitterness, and a light vegetal quality. The body is medium to thick, with low carbonation and a long finish. Overall a big ass IPA, but it's a bit too sweet.
