Brandy barrel aged Dubbel. On-draught @ the brewery. Free.
Pours a dark copper. Head doesn't even last a minute.
Taste is redolent of fruitbread, white raisin, Belgian malt sweetness, and treacle. I guess a hint of Brandy creeps in, but it isn't welcome.
Not a balanced beer, nor a well executed Dubbel. Where are the dark fruit flavours? The intricate Belgian yeast subtleties?
Its noticeable ABV makes it something of a chore to drink. Brandy barrel aging a Dubbel wasn't exactly a stupendous idea.
Not a beer I'd buy willingly. Has too much raw sweetness.
D+ / NOT RECOMMENDED
