Splurged for a 22oz bottle today for $14.50 from The Flight Center in Nashua.... digging in now while grabbing some 'Zebo time...
Poured half into a tulip.... it's a dense, opaque, oily brown, with a rim-clinging touch of beige bubbles. Has little in the way of lacing also. The aroma is lovely, with rich malts, hints of dark fruit, and peaty, whiskey notes. It is quite smooth, and the body is an easy medium, leaning hard towards medium-plus.
Taste has loads of rich, semisweet malts. Has a touch of caramel and syrupy dark chocolate , like Bosco... also had rich notes akin to port or sherry. Subtle whiskey action appears along with some lovely, lightly smoky action. Really hard to find anything in the way of hopping, but that's fine by me; I love Scottish ales rich, semisweet and malty. This one scores large on that scale. Wish it was a "wee" bit cheaper. Prosit!!
