Picked this up a while back while in Virginia and finally got around to drinking it. Review is from notes taken on 12/27/2009, poured from the bottle to a snifter.
Appearance: The pour is darkest brown/near black and is opaque; starts with a huge 2 and 1/2 finger head that comes quickly so I'm forced to pour slowly and intermittently; head is light tan and has pretty solid retention and fades slowly to a thick and uneven skim; spotty and loose lacing clings to the sides of the glass.
Smell: Smell is of light roastiness, some semi-sweet chocolate and slight hints of maple; there is an earthy hoppiness to it and as it warms, a smell of milk starts to come out in the nose as well.
Taste: Really matches the smell - light roastiness combines with that semi-sweet chocolate and mild earthy hoppiness for a somewhat bitter brew that is equally balanced by a sugary maple sweetness in the back end; there is a creamy, almost milky flavor and a coffe-esque aftertaste which is quite nice.
Mouthfeel: Body is a little thin and watery; carbonation, while strong, is very soft and smooth and creates a certain creaminess out of the thinner body.
Drinkability: Not too bad - flavors are quite nice and solid and it doesn't sit especially heavy for a stout; the ABV isn't that high so a couple wouldn't be out of the question; I do however with the body was a tad thicker.

I'm not quite sure the 'milk/sweet stout' category is the best fit here - probably falls more or less in the broad American stout given it is brewed with oats and maple syrup, and quite potent but not being 'imperial'.

I am quite impressed by this beer, and, after checking the brewery's website, with the brewery itself. My kind of beer and brewery.

Slightly thin body, but combined with the flavor balance, and medium abv content makes for a very drinkable beer.

Poured a dark brown color with an off white head. Aromas of burnt sugar, roast, and chocolate. Tastes of roastiness, chocolate, and some maple syrup.
