Discombobulator is a German Maibock lager brewed for the month of ”Mai”. Bocks are strong beers and traditionally have names ending in “-ator”. Our Discombobulator Maibock is a “helles” or light-colored bock. Always a crowd-pleaser in the brewpub but you have to be here in May to experience the phenomenon that is Discombobulator! Discombobulator is a signature beer of Will Gilson.

Had on tap at the brewery in Jackson. Golden straw yellow appearance with a light head. Good carbonation. Smells of grains and a very slight but pleasant sulfer smell. First sip a little boozy and it stays that way. The grainy flavor and touch of sulfer is there but it really is overpowered by the alcohol. If this was a bit of a hoppy beer it might hid the booze better but it's not. Heavier mouthfeel but I enjoyed it. It's decent and would be better if they dialed it back a bit on the booze.

Pours a clear orange gold, not much of a head of foam; despite that, thar be lacing.
Big bready notes in the smell. I also get some caramel and a spicy note or 2.
The semi sweet caramel mixed with a bready malt dominates. The spicy kick I mentioned in the smell doesn't appear in the taste but it is not needed. Makes this beer more authentic to the style.
Medium body and carbonation.
Good interpretation of the style.

It is a little heavy on the alcohol, but for that it is very smooth and testy. It is uniformly bready with little other flavor. It is almost like drinking a strong pilsner.

Best by Sept '07:
Pours bright copper with a thin white head.
The aroma of fresh grain carries nicely into the taste. Sweetness balanced by continental-type hops. Touch of peppery alcohol in the finish, though well-covered by the flavor. Medium-bodied with just a touch of rawness on the palate. Falvors carry through the aftertaste fairly well.
A nice maibock overall.
Thanks to jcwattsrugger for bringing this back from his trip out West!

Low intensity grainy aroma with some mild malt sweetness. Orange tinted golden body with a diminishing thumb thick head. Very lager looking. Fairly spicy fore is also packed with earthy malts, perfumey clove like flavors and a hint of stiffer spice in the finish. Taste delivers much more than aroma. Not a bad little bock really and handles the 7.1% abv (7.1% not 8.3% is the info I have) quite nicely.
