Rob Denton’s latest signature series is a whopping 10% abv classic English Barleywine. Breakneck is warming and syrupy sweet with a balanced hop profile. A product of our R+D “mini-me” tank there are only 10 total barrels of this limited edition beer. Breakneck is a challenging out of bounds ski run at Jackson Hole. Be careful or you may find yourself rag-dolling down the face!

Bottle #33. Poured into a Founders snifter.
Appearance: Pours a cloudy amber-brown with a thin off-white lacing.
Smell: Immediately upon cracking the bottle I get quite a bit of harsh solvent alcohol. However, when I get my nose closer to the glass it's much more mellow. Dark fruit, caramel, and molasses dominate the nose. Actually very pleasant after the initial hit of alcohol subsides.
Taste: Takes a bit of a left turn here - the flavor profile is dominated by fruit. I'm getting quite a bit of cherry along with some raisin. That fusel alcohol that I smelled when I cracked the bottle is back here, and it has a lot more staying power. This really doesn't come off like a barleywine - more like a high gravity fruited Belgian ale with a healthy dose of acetone. The solvent flavor really clings and takes over the finish along with more cherry.
Mouthfeel: Extremely light body for a barleywine. The resulting watery mouthfeel detracts quite a bit from the overall experience.
Overall: Certainly not what I was expecting. A little more body and a lot less fusel alcohol flavor and I think this would be quite nice. Alas, that is not the case.
