Combine the hoppiness of your favorite IPA with the smooth darkness of a porter or stout and you get what’s known in the biz as a black IPA or Cascadian Ale. Hop Black is all of that and more. Designed by our homebrewer buddy Andy Shaw with ingredients donated by Cargill corp. We are pledging to donate a portion of sales to the Jackson Hole Food Cupboard.

Got this beer on tap at Marcellar, poured into a pint glass at 45 degrees.
Appearance: A one finger dark tan head that had fair retention. The head is frothy and left a little lacing on the glass. The color of the beer is opaque with no clarity. There is a nice carbonation on the glass.
Nose: A very nice hoppy aroma that is piney, grapefruit, and some floral hops. The malt is roasted with burnt notes. Other flavors are yeast, biscuit, and phenols.
Taste: A very good hoppy flavor, piney, floral, and grapefruit. The malt is roasted with burnt notes, and caramel. Other flavors are yeast and phenols.
Overall: The mouth feel of the beer carbonated, astringent, and coating. The body of the beer is medium and the finish is medium full. This is a good beer has a nice hoppy flavors and good balance in the beer. I am glad that I got to try this beer and hope to try others from Andy.
