A rich, dark full bodied ale. Made with 4 different barleys and finished with 2 kinds of hops.

On tap at the brewpub and sampled on May 21, 2013.
It pours dark brown to near black but not pitch black. The mocha head is soft and lingering.
The aroma is of coffee and dark malts and reminded me more of a Porter. Not much in the way of hops.
The body was light to medium akin to an Irish dry stout.
The taste is not terribly bold or unique but there is a coffee and dark malt note and a medium dry finish.

On tap at the source as part of a sampler. Comes to the table a solid dark brown/black color with a smallish off tan head that displays moderate retention. The aroma is caramel, roast, coffee, a hint of chocolate, with a bit of a lactic and metallic aromas. The flavor is sweet with some caramel off set by roasted coffee but ruined by some annoying lactic, metallic, and phenolic flavors. Little to no hop flavor. Medium body with a light level of carbonation, and a sweet roasty mouthfeel. A stout with its rich roasty aroma and flavor can hide lots of flaws, this one does not. I'm not sure if sanitation is an issue while brewing or if we have dirty taps lines here, but this one is a mess.

Arrived from the tap in a shaker pint.
A: A deep brown to black with an off-white head that lasted until the end of the glass and left a trace of lacing as it went downwards.
S: Malty and roasty. What you would expect of a stout
T: coffee, roasty grains, malt, some caramel sweetness.
M: full bodied with slightly les carbonation that I would expect in a stout.
O: Average. Nothing really stood out with this beer. There was nothing bad about it. It was average.

Off tap this beer was an opaque black color with one finger of tan head. The retention was ok as a collar and the lacing good. The aroma was nice, roasted and blackened malt, coffee, peppercorns and hints of spice. The flavors were very good and on-point for a stout. Lots of roasted malt, coffee, hints of unsweetened cocoa, dark chocolate and a good bitterness from the hops. The mouthfeel was smooth and creamy, the body full and the carbonation low. If you are a stout-lover you have to try it.

This was a medium brown, not dark brown or black, color with a tiny head. It had a vague, roasted malt aroma. The taste was a real surprise. I thought I was drinking Coca Cola; no roasted malt or coffee or chocolate presence at all. In addition, it was a very thin beer with little in the way of mouthfeel. One and done.
