the first one of these to say colorado native that i remember, must be all colorado ingredients in this one. its a cool plum sour, aged in whiskey barrels, and quite mature. its neat how forward the plum is, usually its either sweet, or generic fruity at best, but here its so obviously plum in the aroma and the flavor, thats what i like the best about it. lots of acidity to this now, but not nearly as sour as some of the other wooden labeled beers have been from these guys. its concentrated lemon juice to me, white vinegar, white wine, and then a huge layer of bretty funk as well. definitely several bugs at work on this one. somehow though, the plum character remains in tact, perhaps preserved by the whiskey, i get a lot of that here too, but its almost freshly fruity, surprising and awesome. i could do with a little less acidity, especially for volume drinking, but its nice in small doses, and the oak, the whiskey, and the fruit go together extremely well. vanilla notes from the whiskey are cool with the plum, and the tartness highlights the fruit well in the finish. nice carbonation here too, lively and robust on the palate, with plenty of grainy body still too. a well made beer, well aged, and smartly crafted. the first of these i have had in ages from them, i used to love them all! great use of plums here.
