Review from notes.
A: Very dark brown, almost black, color. The liquid seems think when it's poured. Basically no head, only a minimal amount of airy bubbles that dissipates almost instantly. Only minimal reactions when the glass is swirled.
S: Big malty aromas hit the nose, mostly roasted and burnt malts. A decent amount of smoky aromas as well - charred wood, coal and some notes of smoked meat. Herbal hops are to be found underneath the thick layer of malts.
T: Basically replicates the smell. First of all, it's mostly sweet due to all the malty goodness. Roasted and burnt malts, some dark fruits and coffee. Some chocolate and perhaps some faint vanilla as well. Some hops. Then the smoke kicks in. Mostly charred wood and coal, but the notes of smoked meat makes an encore as well. The finish is only slightly bitter and dominated by juicy malts coupled with notes of herbal hops.
M: Rather full-bodied. Low levels of carbonation that disappears almost completely towards the end. Quite sticky and chewy.
D: I liked this one. A pleasant and well integrated smoky coating rests upon a good dark ale (porter?) foundation with plenty of sweetness to it. But one 500 ml bottle is actually a little too much considering the demanding sweetness.
