Reviewed from notes. Sampled first at SD brewers guild fest 2009 and then again in December at the brewpub after Port Strong Ale fest. Supposedly this uses homegrown hops. Its not clear if all their strong ales are variations of the same beer.

Pours dark red/brown and pretty clear. Tall white head that doesnt last long but laces nicely.

Aroma is very sweet and moderately piney with some orange mixed in.

Flavor is very malty and caramelly. I also detect a good amount of hoppiness. 50/50 balance of pine and citrus (in the form of orange and grapefruit). There is some stickiness from the hops and the heavy body. Some of the booze makes itself known as it warms up.

Drinkable and enjoyable. I'd guess that this will come around again with the next hop harvest.
