collaboration with freigeist, when you see these two names on a label, you buy it, no questions asked, even though the best by date appears to have been a couple years ago. a heck of a beer to kick off our cherry beer night, bretty, wood aged, insanely minimal on the grain side, matured to oblivious, with some flecks of sediment in the almost still pour that i swear i can see cherry skins in, authenticity, process intensiveness, time, wood, everything you could ask for in a beer, they present these so humbly, like, you dont know unless you know, and i am so thankful that i do, and that is true with both of these breweries on their own as well. just a hint of pink to it, honestly more peach in tone, some lazy fizz on the edges but almost no real head, some shine but not all the way clear, and the sediment which is dark and looks like fish food in here. it smells and tastes quite sour, like there is a bacterial element maybe from wine barrels, even though the label says brett and it has some funk, thats behind the pucker to me. the cherry is real and robust in the nose, less so in the taste, kind of blending into generic red wine vinous character, more and more acidity as it warms too. deeply earthy slate sort of mineral profile, could be from the salt, but this doesnt drink like conventional gose at all, and the salt element is a little lost here, wood tannins, a hint of vanilla, raspberry tang too, and dried flowers. great nuance if you can get through the acid, and impressive overall quality, fermentation driven before the fruit, worth the price. i could use more bubbles here, a bottle conditioned softness and brightness, but its just not there. i love that these guys got together, i wish i was personal friends with them, i feel like i know them both so well as breweries, and this is a cool combination of what they do so well, even if its old now.

A: The beer is very hazy yellow in color. It poured with a half finger high white head that died down slightly, leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of sourness are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell, having some sourness with notes of oak and hints of cherries and saltiness. No funk is detectable.
M: It feels a bit more than light-bodied and slightly tart on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This is a pleasant sour gose, although it seemed the cherries could have been a bit stronger in the taste.
