a collaboration with engine house 9, we had to pick this up when we saw it, two of my favorites coming together, didnt even know this existed, a least a couple of years old now too, glad we stumbled on this apparent rarity. its a gorgeous brett pale as you would expect from these two breweries, and the time on it doesnt depreciate its awesomeness, even if identifiable hop varietals have since faded into relatively generic hoppiness, this really isnt about the hops anyway, its about the brett, which is not well mature and super interesting in here. it might be a mix of brett cultures from both breweries, but its impressively funky without any real tartness to it at all, a little tight in the bottle when we opened it up. clear for just a second, then getting thicker as it pours toward the bottom, finally quite sedimented in the bottom inch or two, leaving a dull saturated milky looking straw colored drink in the glass with a short fizzy white head and a couple of little floaties. super mature brett on this, musty and horsey and old worldy to me, wet straw and dried grass clippings, some light bitterness remains from the hops, and a pretty dense and soupy grain profile, raw and malted white wheat heavy to me, trace oxidation now. the carbonation is thankfully really high on this, so it doesnt feel heavy to me, and its so dry from the brett that its actually pretty easy drinking. i love how funky this is, and dont miss more or more distinctive hops in here at all, its hearty, autumnal, almost agricultural to me, and very much a timeless and distinctive brett profile, almost orval-esque as it warms. really tasty, even if past its best by date, still drinking nicely. very cool collaboration between two of my favorites!
