Bottle

Pale yellow translucent body with a thin head of broken bubbles that rapidly fades to nil. Definitely lambic inspired, as the bottle reads. Body is chewier than expected. Carbonation nonexistent. Bold white grape and vinous notes, grape skin. Mild to medium funk. Grand sour presence with medium acetic character. Fun.

 

 

shocked at the low scores here, this is wild in its own unique way, a cool spontaneous profile, and while it is sour, its a neat take on a lambic type brew, a blend of some old beers all aged an cabernet sauvignon barrels, a solera type thing apparently, i think the quality is through the roof, and the brett character is very unique here. the red wine is strong in nose and taste of this bright straw colored brew, funky and tannic, woody and vinous, with red and white currant, plum, and subtle red wine sweetness, maybe a tart wild strawberry thing there too, some vinegar type bacterial acidity, but lots of musty mature bretty funk too. the flavor starts off really sour, white grape, candied orange, and dried flowers are there as well, peach too in the middle, and still some grain body and sweetness. wheaty and fuller, vinegar sourness first, lemon bitterness almost there with it too, then heaps of old dusty musty funk. i love it. yeah its really acidic, even harsh on the teeth, especially when it warms some, but the flavor of this is enormously complex, hay and straw and grapes of all persuasions, wicked mature and interesting. these guys somehow remain under the radar, i think its because their beer is hard to find here. this is next level, one of their best!

edit: i see now they do a dark blend of this too, two different beers i think, which i may have actually reviewed above here and been unaware that it was a different beer, but i dont think so, the color is light to carry the word dark, a light amber at most. i will have to track these down again and confirm...

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The beer pours a hazy orange sort of color with a white head. The nose is quite reminiscent of an extremely catty Sauvignon blanc. Very...wild with a sharp acidity to the nose, quite a bit of wood, a bit of saw dust, and light fruits such as melon, pear, and apple. The flavor is almost searingly acidic. Very, very sour with some strong lemon and acetone notes. Quite a bit of white wine, grapes, and melon. Just a bit too much for me.
