This is a truly original beer that can be quite tasty with the right food choices. The colour is a slight purple tinge to a yellow lager. the nose is all fruit and flowers. The taste is flowery yet balanced with the decent lager that underpins the hibiscus flavours. I like this with fresh fruit or even a thai dish. A beer worth trying if even for the novelty.

Sampled at GCBF in Victoria.

Funny pinkish colour, with a somewhat out-of-place floral scent.

However, this beer presents a decent, sweet floral taste. Almost like candied flower petals. This seems almost a bit too syrupy going down, and I personally found it too sweet to have much more than a 4 oz sampler glass. Great desert beer though!

Sampled on August 1, 2005.

The brewmasters 30 years of experience, in various parts of the world, have produced a truely unique beer.

I'm not a big fan of fruit beers, but this is a nice summer-thirst quencher.

It looks like pink grapefruit juice with a slightly pink head. It smells similar to a fruit punch, and has a similar taste as well. It's tangy, but not tart, and fruity esters cover any malt flavour. It's fruity, but not really sweet at all... the hibiscus seems to balance the brew.

Mouthfeel is light, with moderate acidity.

It's unlike anything else. Deciphering my taste buds was difficult, but also a pleasure.

Quite drinkable... could be a serious session beer in the hot sun!

I sampled this again on December 29, 2005, and it was completely different.

It wasn't nearly as pink in colour, or as fruity in aroma and flavour.

It was much more maltier, mainstream/less-weird. Still no hop flavour... it's all habiscous. Very unique.

On the beer menu this was described as a fruit beer infused with hibiscus. Based on that I had to try it.

It was served with a thin white head that capped a pint that had the appearance of ruby red grapefruit juice. The foam was quite viscous and although it didn't leave much lacing, it clung to the top of the beer most of the way down the glass. The aroma was mild, that of sweet fruit, although I couldn't pinpoint it. The flavour was sweet almost all the way from the malt and the mystery fruit, and a touch of honey I would suspect, although it had a bit of a herbal kick from the hibiscus, which acted in place of the hops. The mouthfeel was light, ideal for a summery fruit beer, and paired well with the shrimp mango wrap that I had ordered from the kitchen. It wasn't a very exceptional beer, but I enjoyed sampling what the hibiscus had to offer, and it hit the spot on a hot humid day in downtown Vancouver.
