"Enjoy this special release of a Sour RIS from ROCK ART BREWERY. RUSSIAN IMPERIAL STOUT. Our Russian Imperial Stout inoculated with a Belgian Lambic culture. Sept 2014 in a Maker's Mark Bourbon Barrell. Bottled August 2016. 10% abv. 70 IBU"
Deep, opaque brown. Lightly tan head that evaporates quickly leaving a broken rim. Big chocolate and dark fruit aromas: fresh fig, plum, date, raisin, with a just a hint of sweet bourbon. Wow, the aromas are amazing! Sips as a true RIS with a cutting tartness, tart chocolate covered cherries with just a touch of balsamic vinegar. An amazing concoction in terms of aroma and flavor! The mouthfeel is slick, but holds its own given the complex flavors that overwhelm the palate, texturally.
In all honesty, I've never 'loved' a particular Rock Art offering, but this guy is special. This odd experiment was worth it...I'll be back tomorrow to snatch up whatever's left.
