this is just an incredibly basic beer, maybe one grain and a hop or two with a more or less flavorless ale yeast and not much body or textural intrigue here. that said, sometimes less is more and this one is pretty well done, better than their ipa i think, and a different type of way to feature the hops of the region. a tiny bit of haze in this honey colored brew that holds over an inch of white head beautifully in the pint glass. aroma of wet and cut grass together, hay and straw, slightly floral hops, and sweet biscuity malt with a dash of honey. slight pine in the flavor, but more of the meadow grassy hops here, dried but still summery, in nice proportion to the malt, and very clean in the finish with decent but not overpowering bitterness. one of those pale ales you could just drink forever and not really think about, and thats nice sometimes. they seem to have a nice little humble operation going on here, and while none of the beer blew my away, it was all pretty solid. great place to hangout too, their little downtown taproom.

On tap at Yakima taproom, part of a flight. Fairly typical APA, although I found the body a bit watery. Nice flavor though, holds up well for the style.

 

 

 

Pours a finger and half of head on a clear straw body.
The aroma is bright lemon and pine.
The taste is moderate bitterness with a honey sweet in the middle.
The texture is crisp.
Enjoyable.

 

 

Bought a 22oz (651ml-not 650ml here?!?!) bottle of this from the Beer Shoppe in Yakima, WA for $4.99. Poured from the White/Green Labeled bottle into a 16oz Arcadia IPA Pint Glass. Has no freshness date but not worried since its a local brew.

Aroma- Very strong aroma with sweet malts and fruits. Hope is very English style with the malt being the dominant factor ingredient.

Appearance- Pours a 1.5 finger head that has good head retention. Has a deep orange colored body with a semi-hazy body. Light suds are left on the glass.

Flavor- A tons of floral hops come in during the taste now! Very fresh and can taste sweet malts as well. Medium bitterness on the finish.

Mouthfeel- Medium Bodied, Medium-High Bitterness, Smooth, and has a nice well balanced flavor with hops/malt.

Overall Impression- A very fresh and well balanced APA. Reminded me of an English IPA and didn't have a problem with this since this was a fresh APA. Get your hands on some if you can!

 

 

22oz bomber purchased at Yoke's in Kennewick for $5.49, I believe. On the side of the label it says "Brewed and bottled in Yakima, Washington by Yakim a Craft Brewing Co." Now, I'm all for innovation when it's called for, but do they really need to change the spelling of Yakima?

Clear, bronze color with a rather minor white head. Spotty, infrequent lace.

Malty, like fresh gingerbread, with some floral hops in the background.

Big malty taste to this one. As it warmed up, I swear what hops there were actually receeded. I've never encountered that before. This is a sweet take on the style, a little too sweet in my opinion, though not to the point of being undrinkable.

Slightly prickly mouthfeel, medium bodied.

One of the weirder pale ales I've had. Definitely not in the PNW tradition of the style. The odd, spicy maltiness and the hard-to-find hops make this a one-and-done drinking experience for me, plus I can buy several better PAs in 12oz bottles for the price.

Appearance has a darker amber color with a thick crisp head and fair lace. Smell is of sweet spiced malt and light floral hops. Taste of the sweet spice malt that is pretty earthy with moderate hops. Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation. A different Pale Ale for sure, I don't think it's one I'll run back to again soon.

Pours amber with a one finger head. Modest lacings. Smell is mildly floral hops. Taste is some piney hops with plenty of malts to balance. Nothing over the top with this Pale Ale but would like to try the keg version. Very sessionable though and will seek a growler fill next time I visit Yakima.

Smell: Eucalyptus oil verging on nail polish

Taste: The acetone I found in the IPA is also present in this batch of the pale

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Drinkability: Not very high, I am afraid

First time trying these guys's beers and I liked the subtle notes on this pale ale. The hops were kinda flowery and dare I say English in feel. Took a second for the beer to establish itself as I was expecting typical big PNW hops. Once I started drinking it I liked the sessionable qualities of this beer. Would like to try it on tap

pours a clear pale light amber with a small bubbly dirty white head, and some lacing.

smell is of sweet malt, some caramel, a touch of citrus, and a little floral.

taste is thin at best, caramel, nuts, malt, and some syrup, ends a little on the bitter side.

Served in straight pint glass. Poured a deep yellow with a thin cap of white head that featured low retention and some, not a lot, lacing.

The aroma was very balanced, showing skill with the brewkettle. A nice grainy aroma supported the blend of hop scents. The taste followed along nicely, grain along the edges, hops upfront and on the dry, crisp finish.

The body was average for the style, not light or heavy, just what you'd expect without surprises. Drinkability was a little above average for the style, going down easy without being being too filling.

Overall, I liked this beer a lot. I could see this brew being an afternoon's companion with the game or at a cookout. Worth your time.

22 oz from Yoke's Kennewick poured into Piraat tulip 2.16.10.

Ultra clear reddish light amber, no visible carbonation. 1/3 finger white head, very quick dissipation and absolutely no lacing. Second pour resulted in no head at all. Sweet caramel malts dominate the nose, with some grassy hops present. Taste is fairly sweet, though some piney hops are present on the back end. Watery mouthfeel, minimal carbonation. At this ABV pretty sessionable. Not a bad APA, but too many good ones out there to seek this out, plus the $5.49 for the bomber is a bit stiff, considering the quality and competition. Worth one try, but I won't be purchasing this again.

Yakima doesn't filter their beer. But generous use of isinglass finings brings a polished clarity to this basic pale ale. The beer is clear amber with a frail, flowery hop aroma. Caramel sweetness and backdrop bittering form a basic design that shows modest lace from the bottle, but is more expressive on draught. Has a big chewy mouthfeel and a carefree disposition.
