Companyia Cervesera del Montseny “Doble IPA”
33 cl. Brown glass bottle coded “Batch No 12/08/23”
3,50€ @ Supermercat Llibreteria 5, Barcelona, ES
Notes via stream of consciousness: Holy shit! This is a double IPA at 8.2% with 90 IBUs! The hops are listed as Mosaic and Simcoe. It’s slightly hazy and deep golden in color beneath a short head of off-white foam. The aroma is actually fairly hoppy which is not always the case with double IPAs, and it’s citrusy, otherwise fruity, and a touch piney. There’s some grainy and bready malt there as well. On to the taste, it’s pretty much the same as the aroma. The bready and grainy malt is lightly sweet and acts as a springboard for the hops which display notes of orange, grapefruit, a drip of lemon/lime, red berries, earthiness, and soft pine. It’s bitter but it doesn’t crush you, and there’s some alcohol as well. Combined they create a very dry, alcohol-washed finish with earthiness, pine, and some mild herbs lingering. In the mouth it’s full-medium in body and gently crisp and then smooth ~ but not too smooth because of the alcohol. All said this is a pretty intense double IPA that will leave you a little shaken but completely fulfilled.
